Pakistan flag The current flag of Pakistan was adopted in 1947 upon the declaration of Independence in 1947. The green colour represents the Islamic majority of the population and the white stripe on the left side represents the other religious minorities. The flag also has the Islamic star and crescent, with the five points of the star representing light and knowledge, and the crescent – progress.

It represents Pakistan’s commitment to Islam and religious tolerance.

British Pakistan flag Previously another flag was also suggested, prior to independence, which showed the Union Jack on the green background with the Islamic crescent and star. Pakistan’s founder Muhammed Ali Jinnah rejected it though because he said Pakistan’s people would never accept St George’s cross on the same flag as the Islamic symbol.

Pakistan also holds the world record for the most people to form a flag. In February of 2014, more than 29,000 people in a stadium in Lahore formed the Pakistani flag which was certified by the Guiness Book of Records. The previous record was also held by Pakistan from 2012 with 24,000 people, also in Lahore.
