Where is Cameroon?
Cameroon is located in Central Africa on the Atlantic Coast. It shares a border with Nigeria to the north, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Republic of Congo to the south and in the east, it has a border with both CAR and Chad.
Cameroon is located close to the equator and so it has year-round hot humid weather.
Douala
Douala is the biggest city in Cameroon and is the main port of call when flying in. It is considered the economic capital of the country and is home to more than 5 million inhabitants. Douala is located on the mouth of the Wouri River and is surrounded by mangroves and rainforest, even with some national parks nearby. Douala is definitely worth a day or two as you pass through to other areas of the country.
Yaoundé
Yaoundé is the sleepier capital of Cameroon. Located in the south central part of the country, about a five hour drive away from Douala.
English Speaking vs French Speaking areas
The English speaking area of Cameroon is in the north west and south west of the country, along the Nigerian border. Despite being a small percentage of Cameroon, over 41% of the country’s population lives in their region. The rest of the country is considered the French speaking part of Cameroon.
Despite being divided into French and English speaking regions, the majority of people speak native African languages.
