Iran
Iran is a country of contradictions. Conservative but cool. Relaxed yet energetic. Historical but modern. Free yet oppressive. The list could go on. It's many things but nothing like what you'd expect For centuries this proud country has been torn between tradition and modernity, the Islamic world and the western world, and you witness these battles in everyday life.
You'll be sitting down with some cool young Iranians sipping on a flat white discussing politics and planning to meet up to party later in the evening when a group of Islamic clergy walk past in their traditional clothing closely followed by women wearing the chador.
Iran is also quickly changing, more and more are rebelling against the expected norm and paving their own way forward meaning that even if you've been to Iran in the past, it won't be the same place you previously visited.
Persian architecture and culture is some of the most highly valued in the world and you'll probably need help picking your jaw off the ground as you are constantly amazed by the wondrous sites which invoke such strong feelings. Whether you're starting your day early to catch all the wonderful buildings before they're overrun with locals, or just sitting down to a tea and a shisha, Iran has something for everyone.
Being one of the largest countries in the world also means it's geographically diverse. From the Capsian coast in the north, to the Balochi desert in the South, the swamps on the Iraqi border in the west to the mountains and forests of Khorasan, nature lovers will also love Iran.
